Meet Dr. White

“I became a dentist to have the daily chance to improve the life of every person I treat through long-term patient relationships and partnerships in the community. Every person who leaves my office healthier and happier is rewarding to me---every single day.”

I am a native Tar Heel, born in 1969 while my dad was in the orthodontic program at UNC-Chapel Hill. In 1972, we moved to Wilmington where I practically grew up on a 10-foot Boston whaler, fishing and exploring the wonders of Topsail and Wrightsville beaches with my twin sister.

I have great memories of hanging out in my father’s orthodontic practice, sitting in the waiting room and reading all the latest comic books – Iron Man, Superman, Richie Rich, Spiderman—I loved them all! When I wasn’t reading comic books, I was playing sports. Then, in fifth grade, I discovered guitar and piano. To this day, I still play and even write songs. I shared my journey with one boxer, two golden retrievers and three yellow labs.

I graduated from Episcopal High School in Virginia in 1987 and then spent nine years at UNC-Chapel Hill, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Pre-med / English and completed my dental training. I also received my GPR certification from the Bowman Gray Medical Center in 1998.

For four years I was an associate dentist in Raleigh and Clayton in addition to providing dentistry on weekends to Medicaid patients. Later, I completed Fellowships in implants and orthodontics. I’m a certified digital dentist, and I also help train dentists on new technologies. I have also earned certifications in the treatment of sleep disorders and TMJ disorders.

I’m incredibly blessed with a wonderful wife and three awesome kids. I’m a Wilmington native, and I know how important it is to give back to the community. I’m involved in several volunteer activities including local athletic charity events and helping out at the schools Jim, Liza and Anna attend.

I’m also in love with three more yellow labs; they go everywhere with me, whether I’m boating, relaxing on the beach, walking or running! I enjoy staying fit and practicing yoga. You’ll still see me writing songs and picking a tune on my Marin acoustic guitar. However, you probably won’t see me on a Boston whaler (though I would still love one!)

The most rewarding experience I’ve ever had as a dentist was when I treated a 77 year-old woman. We gave her a smile makeover in a single day through the wonder of digital dentistry. The next day she called our office crying—she said she had been smiling in the mirror all night, and she hadn’t smiled like that in 50 years. Never underestimate the power and well-being that results from a healthy smile.

I would love to meet you and learn how I can brighten your smile and brighten your life. Please pop in for a visit or drop us a line. My team and I would like to get to know you!
